Our Story

The Crichton Group has become one of the Southeast's premier independent insurance agencies by focusing on providing professional service to our clients. The cornerstone of the agency began in 1979 with the founding of The Crichton Company. The agency rapidly grew and prospered, winning the loyalty of clients through personal service. In 1988, with the acquisition of E.S. Brugh Co., we acquired a company with a proud heritage that dated back to 1902.

In 1993, the company again enhanced its standing with the merger of the Brandon Insurance Agency. The Brandon Agency, since its founding in 1951, had a proven record of providing superior financial security through innovative risk management techniques and competitive insurance products.

The last foundation block was added in 1997 as a result of the merger with Granbery and Associates. James Granbery started his insurance career in 1957, ultimately bringing Bob Jackson and Jimmy Ward into the company as owners in 1993. The building and growth of our organization has continued to allow us to focus on strengthening our professional and personal commitment to clients.

For over 10 consecutive years, The Crichton Group has been one of just a select group of professional independent insurance agencies that has been awarded the IIABA Best Practices Agency Award. The award is given to only those agencies that have met exacting standards relative to how they conduct business and serve their clients.

The firm's operating philosophy is imbedded within its mission and value statements. Our future plan is to remain a privately held, locally owned and operated, independent insurance and financial services organization.
